THE LIFE LESSON I LEARNED FROM TURMERIC

I don’t like the taste, texture or the holy grail results I am supposed to feel from consuming turmeric. There, I said it and it feels so good to get it out! I definitely enjoy a curry dish and a warming golden milk in the cooler months but that’s the extent of it.

I have taken turmeric for therapeutic reasons on/off for many years. Either powder form, supplement, liquid, essential oil, you name it I most likely have tried it.

Who hasn’t heard of the miracle that this spice offers? Lowers inflammation, helps with weight loss, relieves joint pain and improves blood circulation is only a short  list of what this one spice can help with.

But it doesn’t work for me and I’ve known this for a while.

This past year, I was determined to heal the pain in my knees along with some other health concerns I was experiencing. Working closely with a health practitioner, I was told to take turmeric in a very large dose and to make sure I sprinkled it on all of my food, daily. “Just take it, the benefits are endless”.

I love cooking but other than salt and pepper to food on a daily basis was my initial red light moment and a hard NO! Something felt off immediately and I declined.

Listening to my intuition and being very clear about how I felt about doing something that did not feel right to me came a huge turning point in my life.

You may be thinking why this whole story is about something so small and meaningless in the whole scheme of life? Believe me, this is much more than not liking a culinary spice. By all means use it if you love it. It’s a great spice that is adored by many and does help with various ailments.

Enough about turmeric!

Life Lesson

I have been in the wellness space going on ten years. Prior to my interest in health and wellness, I was in the beauty industry for twenty years.

That’s a lot of years dabbling, testing and experimenting in the name of beauty, health and healing.  Eating styles, different types of foods, services and supplements, skincare products and a plethora of coaches, healers and a support system that all helped me in various stages of my life.

I am grateful for each and every experience and learned to keep what works and let go of what does not.

I love sharing my experiences with others so much, I made a career out of it.  According to human design research & discovery is part of who I am. I was very intrigued when I learned this but more about HD later.

How else will you know if you like something or not if you don’t try it for yourself? That’s perfectly acceptable and necessary- within limits. The fine line is when you ignore what you feel, because someone else told you so.

We look to a doctor, influencer, coach or friends and family for advice or recommendation, sure. These people possibly know better than us if they are an expert or have experience in what we need and rightfully so. Always check in with yourself first and honor your feelings, because they show up to tell you something.

We are living in a time that so much information and help is available to us for free and with payment. It is amazing for sure with one, but…Nobody knows you better than you know yourself. Not one single other person on the planet spends more time with you.
